I am curious to know the process for buying a new car or truck in Korat. In the US the sticker price on the vehicle is a starting point for negotiating the final price to be paid. I am wondering if that is the case in Korat whether it be the sticker price on the vehicle or those price sheets they hand out in the mall. If the price is in fact negotiable what percentage of discounts have KF members typically been able to negotiate?

We bought a new Toyota this year. It turned into a hair-puller because I bought it in my name and then returned to the UK before the red plate was replaced.

However, to answer your specific question, there is always a deal but it will be controlled by the manufacturer. In other words, dealers do not compete with one another or haggle on the forecourt. We were told that the Vigo price could be discounted by Bt30,000. Then we were told that we could use the discount, in part or whole, to buy extras and insurance. The extras are from Toyota's accessories range. I squeezed the pips out of what they were offering and then asked for a further discount. I was refused. It's always worth asking, though.

I wanted a reversing indicator fitted - the type that tells me when  I'm about to hit something. They're very useful on these beasts. Toyota don't offer one but the workshop down the road did - and I got a discount from that.

With my two "new" purchases, the only negotiation in the price it seems was on the "accessories", which was previously mentioned. The Isuzu had the extras already installed, and they wouldn't budge from the sticker price.   The Toyota, which took 24 hrs for it to arrive, didn't have the extras, and the salesman knocked off 30,000bht from the list price of the floor room model which had all the goodies. I had the same "extras" added in town for about 14,000 bht.  Used vehicles prices are negotiable to a point.  However, I strongly recommend if possible, to buy "new". PM me if you want an idea of what to expect with a "used vehicle" purchase. Grin
