I heard that a new pub was about to open in Korat on Suranaree Road, a few blocks east of Pasinee.
Has anyone seen or been to this place?

I was speaking to a Brit and his Thai wife a while ago ( at the Passinee ) and he stated he was vey close to opening a Brit resturant just up the road. No doubt he will adertise the opening, fool if he does not.
If you speak to Mike, he knows more about it than I do.

The English guy's name is Adrian. The pub should be open in about the end of this month. Its about 20 metres east of the junction to the old bus station, near to the 7/11

Martin -- I rode my bike past there and drove past there last week and couldn't see the pub. Is it on Suranaree Road, or a cross road?
How about a Google Earth placemark?

Adrian is a very plausible chap, more so because his wife confirms what he says. When I talked to him 6 months ago in Jacks bar he was going to open in 2 months, about 200 yards form the Pasinee (there was indeed a shop which had been gutted and could have been converted to a pub) but a few beers later he insisted it was just acroos the road from the Suranaree monument. It also struck me as odd that he insisted Mike (owner of Pasinee) was being very supportive. He was going to sell draught guinness, draught stella and bottled Budweiser (had negotiaited special price with importer). Was going to fit it out in british style for 200,000baht (he'd be lucky). The pub exists, yes - but only in his imagination - he's a dreamer but a likeable chap nonetheless. However, on the strenght of this topic, just to be sure, I also walked along Suranaree road from the bus station Jn to it's eastern end, just in case Adrians dream was coming true. Sadly disappointed.

Well, that's too bad.
About the only thing I really miss in Korat is a proper pub with a real bar to which you can belly-up and order a beer. Almost every decent sized town in Isaan has one, but not Korat.
I went to the Irish Pub during my bike ride last night and, once again, it was closed!

When I met Adrian, he gave me the same-same spill, as BanNed posted. He also informed me he had one if the busiest bars in Thailand, and that was in the village where he live (don’t know where) He said it was packed every night from all the people from miles around because he had USB and all the Thais came there in droves to watch football. (Even I know Football isn’t on every night) I have also been contacted by someone else I know, he said he bumped into an English bloke in Korat, and he HAD A PLAN to expand his empire. (My friend was given the talk very similar to above) but this time there was an added twist 2 million baht to buy into the new proposed venture. I could not say for sure, we are talking about the one and same English man here, but I am not a big believer in coincidences, so I told my friend to FORGET the whole thing. Yes, another restaurant would be good, but I have seen how hard Mike works at the Passinee, and the hours he has to put in. (Not for me I’m a lazy Bastard at the best of times) Adrian, no offence to you, but if you ever get round to opening a restaurant in town, best of luck with it. CF

Just been in contact with Adrian. Says he's stopped work on his new pub having recently learnt about the Korat Farang Club being organised by this site. Says he now proposes constructing a new Korat Farang clubhouse. He will put in 2million baht if forum members cough up an equal amount. Any takers? Sounds a solid investment to me. He's asked me to act as an intermediary so you can send money to my British Virgin Islands account or make checks payable to Ample Rich Co.

Here is the link its under the Green Dragon, but it should be the George and Dragon. I wish him luck he will need it. I'm told it will be open the end of the month, as of two days ago, bar is being fitted as we speak. http://koratfarang.com/board/index.php/topic,34.0.html

It's awfully well camouflaged. I hope I am wrong and it is for real. I would delighted be to have to offer a public apology for my cynicism.

Well. Here's my public apology. Yesterdays opening was fantastic. When the police arrived at 0155 we all thought jeez games up or at least we'd have to make a contribution to Korat PD kids Xmas party. But no. They were great. Said next time they get a tip-off that someone has overstayed her visa they'll know where to come. Shame the shindig wasn't better publicised but then if it had been we couldn't have all fitted in and anyway the fire dept certificate restricts capacity to 185 until Adrian opens a third fire exit. Interesting to see if Adrain can keep his prices so ridiculously low and make a profit. But as he he says, he sees it more as a charitable venture than a biusiness proposition. Even Lampard10/farang connection/TV sponsor/famous for being fat from Surin who trolled over to cut the ribbon reckoned the food was better than what he microwaves in his greasy spoon up the road. Anyway we called an extraordinary general meeting of the Korat Farang Association and voted out mpdkorat and Dereklev quoting article 512(a) subsection 3 clause (a) of the Law BE1492 (1987) because , silly peeps, they didn't know about the amendment contained within BE2735(1999) the main pupoase of which was to protect the interest of Tiny Thaksin. And as neither mpd or Derek could claim any blood relationship with the PM that automatically disqualified them from holding any public or private office.
