Has anyone here had a successful hernia operation. I need to get this done but I have heard of some bad doctors/ hospitals that I would like to avoid. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am between St. Marys and the Army hospital for good service.
Thanks

Hernia operations are rarely as straightforward and simple as the surgeons would like you to believe. Even they don't know exactly what will need to be done until they are actually performing the surgery. Due to the potential really bad outcome of a botched hernia repair I would honestly recommend it not be done in any Korat hospital, but in a good hospital in Bangkok. Think Samitivej or Bumrungrad, and ask Sheryl on the Health forum at ThaiVisa for the name of a competent hernia surgeon. There may already be a thread there on it.

Jeff1 I concur with Cathyy on this. Beware of any operation in Korat, remember Robbie...

Thanks Cathyy, Derek and Orchid. Your advice is appreciated and if I could afford to go to one of the better hospitals in BKK, I would. I might not have that option as I need it now. BTW what hospital and doctor did Robbie go to? It might be best to answer this in a PM.
Thanks again

My wife had to have an emergency operation in the Bangkok hospital in Korat, everything went well and I would recommend them. I do not know what has happened to others who have used this hospital, just speaking of my experience.
I have used that hospital and St Marys and have excellent treatment at a very reasonable cost on each visit

I had a hernia op 3 years ago,I opted for The Bangkok Pattaya as it was covered by health insurance....The Cost was 76,480 baht...........The same op carried out by the same surgeon at Sattahip Naval Hospital would be around 16,000 baht...........

I had my shoulder operated on in the Sattahip Naval Hospital and it was very successful. Good doctors there. The hospital has a very good reputation. If you have the insurance I would use the Bangkok option though.

Thanks again for the replies.
There you are Thumper. I have been meaning to talk to you about this. The problem is I do not have insurance, that's why Korat is the only affordable option.
Dutchy124, I'm happy it worked out for your wife. Yours is the only good story I have heard about that hospital.
Then I hear that a lot of the doctors "bounce" from one hospital to the other. It would be great to know the name of THE hernia doctor to use.

I was a little vague when I said Thai Navy hospital, I ment The Queen Sirikit Navy hospital which is staffed by Naval and civilian personel and is open to the general public. Just head for U Tapao airport and you can't miss the hospital - turn right at the 4-way intersection, signposted U Tapao airport, and the hospital is immediately on your left.
Tel: 038 245 929 (Googled)
Give it a ring they speak English there you might get some answers. Good luck
Just to give you the heads up the Army hospital has recently opened a new wing and is a lot more comfortable and a hell of a lot less expensive than the private hospitals. Its just a question of the surgeons competence and I can not comment on that.....
