This morning myself and several other Farangs were invited to a "pre-festival" event at a very large old house in Ban Pradok. I'm not sure what this was actually all about (except that the theme was Kanoom Cheen) but it was a formal do and it was attended by several dignitaries, the main one being a prominent member of the goverment, I think.

All the dignitaries gave long speeches and there were lots of TV cameras there. I think some of it was shown live on the news.

There was a dance depicting the original making of the noodles and some of the farangs were able to attempt to coil the noodles with their hands. There wasn't time for us all to have a go, but I guess that this what the competition will be about. The noodles have to be coiled by hand and presented on a banana leaf on a plate.

As you say Orchid, I'll have to get some practice in before next Friday!  Grin

Thanks very much for that Orchid. Yes I'm in there somewhere, I got to the table just as the guy came and said "stop" right at the end of the clip.  Grin Grin

I've been to the festival today and it was raining. The street in the area is rather narrow, cars stucked in the traffic.

The atmosphere of the festival, for me, it looks like a local market.  Cheesy
I tried many dishes with different type of curry. I didn't have time to see any activities / competitions.

Here's the link from atkorat.net, show some photos of the opening day.

Thanks for that link Orchid, although not a very good picture of me!  Grin Grin

Yes the rain did spoil things a bit, and the organisation was a bit haphazard, but we had a great day out. We were taken in a procession of Samlors from near Yamo, through the city centre and up the road past Maharat hospital to the festival site. Sorry you didn't see us perform.

Here's a few photos of the day.

Photos look good KW.  I guess you won the prize!!  Grin

I've been there too early, I didn't know all activities and the opening happened in the afternoon. Anyway I had a chance to see the parade when it started from Yamo in town.
