In April I had my blood pressure taken in Thailand and was told it was very high. Then a few weeks back in England I had it taken again. They also said it was high so the nurse sent me to a Dr.

The Dr. took my blood pressure a few days after and said it was fine. I had it done again today here in England still, and was told it's fine again. So I asked the Dr. why they thought it was high in April in Thailand and two weeks ago still in England then suddenly back to normal.

I was told that the nurses in the UK often use the self inflating type of machine which often is too tight, giving a falsely high reading. I also remember the nurse in Thailand using the same machine and remembered thinking it felt extremely tight when she did it.

Just something to be aware of.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.

I have my own very simple machine for checking my BP.
(Braun)
I did calibrate with the device that the Doctor used and they had the same results.
Coming regularly in the hospital for check up,I found that the BP taken at the intake always differs(higher) from the BP the Doctor takes some time later?

My BP is always high at the doctor's office and much lower when I take it myself with my simple machine.

In fact, when I got my physical exam for my initial Thai visa, the doctor told me I had hypertension and prescribed some pills. After I arrived in Thailand a public health nurse came to the house and told me my BP was too low! I showed her the pills I was taking and she advised that I stop. I did. And, now when I take my BP it is well within the normal range for my age. No medication required.

I think you're best off to take you BP several times over several days and at different times of the day. Many things can affect your BP, so a single reading is not really telling.
