Does anyone use Skype for calls on their telephone? A mate in England has bought a mobile phone with Skype already installed and he can ring my computer IE Skype to Skype for free. I have downloaded skype to my phone, but I get a message saying I will have to pay to make and receive calls. Is this because of the server, AIS, or for some other reason?
I do have internet connection enabled on my phone and just pay a small amount per month for a limited number of hours online.
Any ideas or recommendations?
Thanks
Dutchy

Why don't you just install Skype to your computer and phone him free on that ? You can also purchase credit to phone any landline number in the UK, at just under 0.06p per minute. Thats a lot cheaper that TOT at 9 Baht per minute.

I use Skype on my computer quite a lot, both for comp to comp and to landlines, I agree very cheap. The problem being I need to be at my computer to answer calls, I would like the option on my phone so I can use it on the move, especially if from phone to comp is free.

I have used Skype on my iPhone and have no problems.
The only catch is I have to be connected to a wireless network when I want to make the call.

i have heard there are problems with the skype version for nokias. i have an N97 and i saw in a forum that the promised N97 compatible skype either has not been delivered or does not work. to answer your earlier post about having to be at your computer to answer skype calls - it looks like if you purchase skype credit, you can have skype calls forwarded to your mobile. i don't use this service myself but it appears to be there. see options/calls/call forwarding in the menus on the main window.

Hi Dutchy124, Please have a look at these topics about VOIP: http://koratfarang.com/board/index.php/topic,1354.30.htmlThe communication quality was not so good from Thailand but it was 3 years ago. http://www.voipdiscount.com/en/index.htmlYour friend in UK, when having the little program downloaded on his PC, will be able to call you for free where ever you are in Thailand both to your cell phone or at home at your landline(can also be any landline nr. that you give him, e.g. a hotel in BKK or a friends home in Chiang Mai). He has to be connected to a computer where VOIPdiscount is downloaded, but if at home he can choose the option : Phone-2-Phone and that will only cost him 5 ?cent connection fee (coz the computer will call the landline nr., and there will be no further charge for him as it will be an incomming call), and the mrs. will be able to continue surfing on the Internet . http://www.voipdiscount.com/en/phone-to-phone.htmlAnd another option is : http://www.voipdiscount.com/en/lowcaller.htmlhttp://www.lowcaller.com/en/get-lowcaller-now.php?label=Voipdiscount.comIt seems that NOKIA E71-1 and E71X are on the download list.

What phone you using? It's some restriction between skype and the operators although there are workarounds. Tell me what you requirements are and I might be able to help u Alex

Hi Alex,
I am using a NokiaE71
I have downloaded Skype to the phone, but I cannot call anybody, only send messages. I was also warned that if I accepted a Skype call I would be charged.
From computer to computer Skype is free and I use it frequently, but it would be nice to be able to Skype free from my phone if possible.
I use AIS one to call as my provider
Thanks Dutchy

Good phone, I used to have one but I left it on the top of a taxi after getting off and paying the driver so the cab drove away with it till it finally dropped somewhere. Anyway yes it's a restriction set by skype and the operator to avoid people to free call (most likely it would work if you are conneted via wifi) Please tell me what is your aim: 1) to make international calls from skype trough phone or 2) to call skype users or 3) to have a local number somewhere that redirects to your mobile? For 1) and 3) there are alternatives, I can't think of any for point 2). I use a jailbroken iphone and trough an application i fool skype letting it think I am wifi while I am actually connected with edge / 3g therefore I can make and receive calls any time. Let me know Alex

Hi Alex,
I have tried connecting via wifi which I have in my house, but the Skype green and red buttons for calls do not appear on the page, only contacts. When I highlight one it asks if I want to send a pm.
As you know International calls via Skype are the cheapest in the business so it would be great if I could do this on my phone via Skype.
My mate in the UK has Skype on his phone and can call my computer free, I would like to be able to call him free from my phone using Skype, ie free and to call computers for nothing.
Once you start mentioning applications I am lost. LOL.

Yes in UK the operator 3 allows skype calls over their network. If you need to make cheap international calls you can always get a VOIP account somewhere and configure Nokia to be used as a VOIP phone without skype. Completely lost?

Yes well done Shark, you have lost me in the murky deep seas of VOIP and configuration. No ideas now, back to computer and Skype, will leave the phone for local calls. Thanks all.

............................................................. As you know International calls via Skype are the cheapest in the business so it would be great if I could do this on my phone via Skype. ...................................................... . SKYPE : http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/prices/callrates/#allRatesTabhttp://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/togo/#checkCallRatesTab . e.g. check the rate from UK to mobile Thailand.(per min. ). http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/prices/callrates/connectionfee/VOIPdiscount: www.voipdiscount.com Thailand (Landline & Mobile) SuperDeal! FREE* FREE* after downloading the little program (1700 kb) and buying credit for 10 Euro(+ 2,60Euro fee and VAT), you can make free calls to Thailand (landlines and mobile) during 120 DAYS. If you use the option Phone-2-Phone, that will only cost you 5 Euro cents "Call fee" (no local charges as your landline phone will receive an incoming call from your PC). But if you use your Phone2Phone via your mobile, it will be expensive, unless you choose this option(that I haven't tried) : http://www.lowcaller.com/en/press.php#LowCaller now available in: .
