Hi All, I think we need a new topic. Latest Happenings at Choc Chai. Any new Info? ? jb1 I notice this post has had 84 hits and no replies. The intention is to try to find out what is happening at Choc Chai and let others know. As in, how did they respond to you. I have to go there on Friday for 90day stamp. As my one year driving licence expires soon. I intend to enquire about letter of residency and hopefully appeal to their better nature. It is a service we need. Just thought it would be good to hear others experiences. Will post on how things go for me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! jb1

Hi all, So I went to Choc Chai today for 90day stamp. No problem. I found the staff very helpful, pleasant and efficent. The whole office had a good vibe. I also asked about a letter of residence. They asked for: 1/ copy of g/f house book 2/ copy of g/f ID card 3/ copies of varioud pages from my Passport 4/ all copies in duplicate and signed 5/ 500bt fee Was told letter will take 2/3 days ( though I suspect it might take longer as it is the weekend) Asked if they will let me know when I can pick it up. Told no problem we will post it to you. Staff very plesant, friendly and efficent. The office had an all round good vibe. Although the lady who I suspect is the boss, carried a stern look most of the time. Until some little Thai/ Farang lad don e something funny which brought a smile to evryones face including hers. Time from entering to leaving no longer than 30mins. So in all a very pleasurable experience.

I also went to the office on Friday afternoon for my 90 day stamp, but not so easy !!!!!
I have received my new passport from the Embassy, but they had cut the corners off my old one which is due to expire on 24th March, the same date as my O visa expires. So in precaution I took both the new and the old. I presented the old one and the form, the officer very nearly put the date of my return visit to the 24th of March, but was a little concerned about the corners of my passport being cut off, so I explained I had a new one, big mistake. Next thing I was told he would transfer my visa to the new one, I tried to explain that it maybe be better just to leave the new one for now as on 24th I would do a 90 day stamp run at the same time as I applied for an extension to my O visa, nooooooooo he was having none of it. I had to sign a form indicating I had a new passport and then I had to get loads of copies from both old and new and got passed along the line, back and forth until I had all relevant visas in my new one. I then asked the young lady who finally filled out the paper for my return date for my 90 day stamp, who normally works at reception, why I had to do this as it meant a trip to the office on 24th, another the following week to pick up my extension stamp and then on April 28th for my 90 day stamp and she explained that all I had to do was ring the office a week before the 24th and ask if my visa had been approved. I explained that it would not be approved as I had not produced any documents such as letter from bank, house papers, Wife's ID etc etc and the fee of 1,900B She was having nothing of it and told me to ring. I know it won't be done, but why the heck was she so insistent on it being done. It has baffled me.
All very friendly and the chap who started off with me didn't quite know what to do at the start and asked the stern faced lady what to do and she replied along the lines of come on it is only a 90 day stamp which brought a laugh to both staff and Thais waiting. Since I have been using the Immigration offices in Korat I have had nothing but good things to say about them. Anyone that has been to the office in Jomtien will know what rudeness is.

1. Well i went last week to get a proof of residency document, had to pay 1000 baht for this document. I needed it to change green book of motorcycle i recently bought into my name. The thing which baffled me was that the driving place in Phi Mai kept the proof of residency documents??
2. I have been told that once again, the new rules on Visas changed on the 1st January; You can now cross the border into Laos and receive a DOUBLE tourist Visa which gives you 180 days. I know this is slightly off topic, but can anybody confirm or advise? My 30 day entry Visa expires next month and usually i fly to Penang for a 90 day Visa. What should i do, is there anything i can do at the immigration in Chok Chai?

You can get a double tourist visa in Laos at the Thai consulate in Vientiane and its free of charge until I believe March. So you would get 60 days then do a 1 month extension at immigration, do a border run, get 60 days and then do a 1 month extension again at immigration which all ads up to 6 months. Vientiane is the only consulate/embassy in the area which still hands out double tourist visa's.

Sorry Ajaxied; For your info: this is where I got it from...Free visas for 2010; Domestic tourism expected to grow up in 2010 BANGKOK, 15 January 2010 (NNT) ? Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa has expressed his confidence in a 10% growth of Thailand's domestic tourism in 2010. The ministry has set a goal to attract tourists from the East Asia. Mr Chumpol on Thursday reported that the number of tourists last year exceeded the target of 14 million people, thanks to good cooperation from the private sector. The minister added that the government's measures to assist tourism entrepreneurs affected by political turmoil would be continued this year, including admission fee reduction, free landing and parking fees, and free visas. Mr Chumpol continued to say that the public sector would also implement measures more proactively with emphasis on tourists from countries like China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. The minister also expressed his belief that the number of Thai and foreign tourists traveling to the Kingdom throughout 2010 would likely increase by 7-10% year-on-year or about 15.5 million people. Just like all the stories from the Politicians it matters who said what.

Ok, I just got my retirement visa renewed for another year and here are the documents I brought with me. 1. Filled out TM7 form with my photo attached. 2. Copies of pages in my passport 3. Letter of Income from my Embassy (I am on the 65,000/month option) 4. copy of my marriage certificate 5. copy of my wife's ID card 6. copy of my wife's house book Gave all the forms to the person at the first desk on the left as you enter. He checked all the documents and then had me fill out a document which was all in Thai. I had to put almost the same info as I had on the TM7. I had to sign the bottom and so did my wife. Got a number, waited for about 10 minutes until my number was called. Went up to desk # 1 and gave her all the papers. She checked them over, took my 1900 baht and told me to wait while the boss lady checked everything. 5 minutes passed and she called me back up to desk # 1 and gave me back my passport with my new stamp in it. Total time about 30 minutes and no hassel.

Ok, I just got my retirement visa renewed for another year and here are the documents I brought with me.
1. Filled out TM7 form with my photo attached. 2. Copies of pages in my passport 3. Letter of Income from my Embassy (I am on the 65,000/month option) ****I did a copy and paste of the above from Rdrokit****
In addition I presented: 4. Filled out TM8 for multi re-entry with photo attached 5. Additional copies of passport.
I only presented the above items, nothing else, even though I had copies of housebook, marriage certificate, bank letter and more. Was never asked for them so didn't give them. My wife did not go with me so perhaps that is why they didn't ask.
I arrived a 9:15 AM and was the only one there. Staff real pleasant and everything was very efficient. Finished everything in 30 minutes.
Pleasant experience and nice cool motorcycle ride today.
