So I hit the clubs last night , went to bar nana then to update. There didn't seem to be any dancefloor per say, just everybody boogying around their tables. is that common over here? Nana was a bit of a bust but Update was good fun - there was a 10 piece Thai band of stage and they had the house rocking!! I was the only farang in the place, so I reckon it was the real deal =) good times.

one significant difference from my part of the world, nobody was drinking beer or cocktails. @update, _everybody_ was on whisky+soda. It seemed like that alpha male would buy a bottle for the table (i guess the more expensive the bottle boosts his status); others would come around with soda and ice. This is how the Thais drink in these parts?

yes to all, dance around the tables and stay close to the bottle. Bring a bottle and see how many fish you can catch. Really good fun, kinda loud sometimes but who needs ears. And like I said before, don't call anyone dude, they will think you are saying doot, which means ..., or suck, depending on the intonation and in a loud environment suck ... will get you one of two things both of which are not enjoyable unless you are into ladyboys. try tawan dang near the sima thani hotel for a great night of thai rock and pop with loads of people too. this is also near a couple of coyote bars where you can get an eyeful for a pocket full.

Doot? Doesn't that mean to drink out of a straw? I use that term as a (American) English slang which does not mean any disrespect. I hardly think that a Thai would be offended by it either. I use this term with my brother-in-law and a cousin. They are students and use that term with their friends. It is catching on quite well! I'll be in Korat this November, and I welcome any one to try attempting to slap my lips off. The Dude

doot means suck, whether out of a straw or out of whatever. Or ... depending on the intonation. PLease, I was just trying to offer some practical advice and was not trying to draw attention to or demean your user name "THE DUDE". That was your choice not mine. So don't be a doot, and don't doot my doot because pom mai yak wheyla khun doot doot.
