We are going to be buying a home here. We are buying from a private party and not from a company.
We will need to get a loan since I can't come up with the total.
I talked to Siam Commercial and they said no problem. They will send an apprasier out and will lend 50% at 6 or 7% interest. If I understood it right.
This is OK, but are there better deals out there?
I don't want to drive to every bank in the area and ask the same questions over and over.
Any help will be appreciated.

Several years ago, about 2005, I was planning on building a home in one of the homes built in a community just in the city. I went to Bangkok of Bank and they did all the appraisal and forms. Originally the down was going to be 100,000 Baht and the interest was to be 3%. All was approved and when I went to sign all the papers the down when to 500,00 and the interest was now 6 and 1/2 per cent, so I smiled and declined. It was a better decision as it turns out because the girl and I broke out about 3 months later due to her before not seen gambling problem. All wells that ends well.
Anyway SDJohn, if the interest was 6% plus 4 or 5 years ago, I would assume that them offering you 6% today is a good deal.

In my opinion, SCB is one of the better banks in Thailand, and the interest rate is set by the BOT, so all the banks are the same. We are in the process of obtaining a loan from SCB here in Korat.

Got a home loan from Krung Thai Bank which is a govt. bank a couple years ago. Not sure they are still available but I got a perferred loan. First 3 months no interest then increased .25% each month until it maxed out at 5.25%.
